Financial Horizon Web Migration

Full website migration using design system for a unified maintenance

Brand

Financial Horizon

Platform

Public-Facing Website

Role

Visual UI Designer

Team

FH Project Squad

Overview.

By Canada Life’s acquisition of Financial Horizon, the existing website required separate technical maintenance from the parent company's system that led to inconsistent brand presentation, and slow content updates.

I designed for the entire Financial Horizon’s public site’s migration for experience, content and structure from its current platform to Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), leveraging the Canada Life's existing Design System and component library.

Business goal.

The goal was to reducing maintenance cost by balancing brand fidelity with system standardization as leveraging Canada Life's existing design system and AEM component library, not rebuild from scratch.

Centralized CMS

Fast deployment

Reduced cost

Single ownership

How should brand fidelity balance within existing component library?

Areas of contribution.

The goal was to reducing maintenance cost by balancing brand fidelity with system standardization as leveraging Canada Life's existing design system and AEM component library, not rebuild from scratch.

UX/UI audit

Identified pages and content with inconsistent navigation and suggest restructuring the architecture making all content accessible within a predictable + consistent hierarchy & user experience.

  • Reviewed existing site experience
  • Gathered existing screens and identified experience gaps

Visual asset management + AODA

Adopted Canada Life's design system allowed us to inherit fully accessible components like colour contrast, keyboard navigation, focus states, and screen reader support.

  • Reviewed any existing AODA issues
  • Ensured all assets were optimized for web performance

Design–dev handoff

Collaborated with dev team from earlier stage through hand off process as a partner.

  • Defined colour and typography tokens for reusability and consistency
  • Collaborated with devs early on to understand constrains

Visual QA + content alignment

Ensured a consistent and polished experience that reinforces brand trust, especially for users encountering the brand for the first time.

  • Lead sync and communication meetings with content team and marketing business for final sign off
  • Ran pre-launch QA to flag asset errors and UI integrity issues

Final product.

Test & Launch

This website migration was tied to live marketing campaigns which means there was no room for errors. To maintain the quality and results, we conducted multiple layers of internal QA.

Layer 1 → Design team

The design team owned visual quality, WCAG and AODA compliance, and asset optimization.

Layer 2 → Content authors

Content authors verified copy accuracy, link integrity, and campaign URL validation to make sure no errors are occurred.

Layer 3 → Site owners

Site owners handled business sign-off, then stakeholder acceptance testing, and final launch approval.

These multiple rounds of internal QA and testing delivered results of:

0

Critical errors

0

Broken links

0

Functional issues
